Cemetery Commission


WHAT WE DO

The responsibilities of the commission are:

  • Maintaining public cemeteries in the City.
  • Taking action when necessary for the improvement or expansion of a cemetery with the approval of the mayor and City Council.
  • With the approval of the mayor, using Department of Public Works employees or contracting of services to ensure proper maintenance.
  • Maintaining plans and records necessary for the proper administration and maintenance of public cemeteries, in coordination with the city clerk, the treasurer, and the Department of Public Works as delineated by Massachusetts General Law.
The Cemetery Commission operates under Chapter 114 of the City Code and Chapter 27 of Massachusetts General Law.
