Recreation Commission

WHAT WE DO

The Recreation Commission supports the Recreation Department’s mission to enrich the lives of Greenfield's residents by providing safe, welcoming parks and recreation facilities and affordable, diverse recreation and cultural opportunities for people of all ages to play, learn, and build community.

The Recreation Commission works with the department to:

  • Create community through people, parks, and programs.
  • Support the department’s mission and vision by providing insight and direction.
  • Make recommendations and advise the recreation director on programming, special events, and parks and facilities.
  • Make recommendations and advise the recreation director on financial and policy matters to meet the current and future needs of the City, including advocating for fiscal support in operational and capital budgets.
  • Provide staff for and encourage community participation in special events and youth programs.
  • Assist with facility-use requests and park management as needed.
  • Creatively fundraise to support the department's various community events and programs, in particular by running the annual Fireworks Fundraising Campaign.
The Recreation Commission operates under Section 6-10 of the City Charter.
