Mayor Roxann Wedegartner and Greenfield Health Department Strongly Recommend Masks Indoors When in Public to Slow Spread of COVID-19

GREENFIELD – Due to an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the City, Mayor Roxann Wedegartner and Greenfield Health Department Director Jennifer Hoffman are strongly recommending residents, both vaccinated and unvaccinated, wear masks or face coverings indoors when in public.

Beginning Monday, August 23, 2021 masks will be required for all visitors to City Hall and other municipal buildings until further notice to help protect both members of the public and municipal employees. If you do not have a mask when visiting, one will be provided for you. This temporary recommendation will go into effect on Monday, August 23, 2021 and last until COVID-19 numbers go back down.

In addition, the Mayor and the Health Department remind members of the business community that they may impose mask requirements or recommendations at their own discretion, for both patrons and employees.

This decision follows a July 27, 2021 update from the U.S. Centers of Disease Control on how to protect yourself and others when you’ve been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This update from the CDC includes the recommendation to “wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission.”

According to Mayor Roxann Wedegartner, “We need to be careful right now and do all we can do to bring our numbers back down, which is why we are making this strong recommendation about mask wearing at this time. We hope it will only be temporary in nature. Please mask up when you are in public to help protect yourself, your loved ones, and the most vulnerable members of our community.”

Greenfield Health Director Jennifer Hoffman stated, “Wearing a mask remains one of our best defenses against this virus and we all need to step up right now to help out. Please remember to grab a mask if you’re heading out and let’s do everything we can do to help stop the spread.”
