JUNE 2022 IS PRIDE MONTH IN THE CITY OF GREENFIELD
WHEREAS, the struggle for dignity and equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people is reflected in the tireless dedication of advocates and allies who strive to forge a more inclusive society; and
WHEREAS, LGBTQ+ Americans, including those who live in our local communities, face discrimination simply for being who they are and for whom they love, and there remains much work to do to extend the promise of our country to every person; and
WHEREAS, dangerous legislation has been introduced and passed in a number of states that seeks to undermine the human rights of LGTBQ+ people and attack their access to health care, and target transgender children and their parents; and
WHEREAS, though advancements have been made toward equitable treatment, rights, and protections for LGBTQ+ people throughout the nation and around the world, it is important for cities like Greenfield to stand up and show support for those affected; and
WHEREAS, celebrating Pride Month influences awareness and provides support and advocacy for the Pioneer Valley’s LGBTQ+ population, and is an opportunity to take action and engage in dialogue to strengthen alliances, build acceptance, and advance equal rights;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that on this 10th day of June, 2022, I, Roxann Wedegartner, the Mayor of Greenfield do hereby proclaim June 2022 as Pride Month in the City of Greenfield; and encourage all community residents to eliminate prejudice wherever it exists and to celebrate our great diversity by taking part in community events throughout June which focus on and celebrate our LGBTQ+ neighbors.
