At the request of Mayor Roxann Wedegartner, the Planning Board is considering the potential expansion of the I-91 Industrial Park to the other side of Route 2, to frontage along French King Highway, also known as Route 2A. This would come in the form of rezoning 11 parcels east of King Road and north of French King Highway from General Commercial to Planned Industry.
Amending the zoning map would allow for growth in the city’s advanced manufacturing base. Present zoning boundaries limit both the potential for expansion by existing businesses and new manufacturing development.
“We are running out of land in the industrial park,” said Mayor Wedegartner. “It’s my hope that rezoning these parcels will serve as a catalyst for job creation and economic development.”
“There is a documented lack of industrial park space in Franklin County,” said Director of Planning and Development Eric Twarog. “Rezoning this area to Planned Industry will help to meet that demand and promote growth.”
Mayor Wedegartner will outline the proposal at a public informational meeting on Thursday, August 18 at 6 p.m. at the John Zon Community Center at 35 Pleasant Street. If the Planning Board votes to proceed, a public hearing will be held on a future date.
