AUGUST 7-13, 2022 IS FARMERS MARKET WEEK IN THE CITY OF GREENFIELD
WHEREAS, farmers markets provide access to safe and nutritious food and create economic vitality for farmers and food producers; and
WHEREAS, the Greenfield Farmers’ Market has been a cornerstone of the community for nearly 50 years; and
WHEREAS, the Greenfield Farmers’ Market contributes to the vibrancy of the downtown Crossroads Cultural District and serves as a community gathering place; and
WHEREAS, farmers markets help to highlight the wide array of agricultural products produced by our farms and food producers in Franklin County; and
WHEREAS, Massachusetts has 7,241 farms, preserving 491,653 acres of open space; and
WHEREAS, farmers markets are a critical link in the local food system and help to mitigate the impact of global supply chain disruptions; and
WHEREAS, farmers markets create healthier communities by providing access to fresh, healthy food to all residents, including SNAP participants and seniors.
NOW, THEREFORE, on this 9th day of August 2022, I, Roxann Wedegartner, Mayor of Greenfield do hereby proclaim August 7 to 13, 2022 to be Farmers Market Week in the City of Greenfield; and encourage all residents to celebrate farmers markets with fitting observances and activities.
