Greenfield Redevelopment Authority Issues Request for Proposals for First National Bank Building

The Greenfield Redevelopment Authority, in partnership with the City of Greenfield, has issued a request for proposals for the acquisition, renovation and redevelopment of the First National Bank Building at 5-9 Bank Row. The landmark art deco building, dating back to 1929, sits in the heart of downtown, facing Court Square, and adjacent to other renovated buildings within the Main Street Historic District. The building, which last operated as a bank in 1972, boasts 6,600 square feet on both the ground-floor and basement levels, plus a 670-square-foot mezzanine.

“Now that we have finalized plans to breathe new life into the Wilson’s building on Main Street, we are renewing our efforts to reactivate the First National Bank building to support revitalization efforts and contribute to a vibrant downtown,” said Mayor Roxann Wedegartner. “This is a building that has a lot of potential. Possible uses range from retail or entertainment to a boutique hotel or food hall. We’re excited to see what developers might have in mind.”

While redevelopment plans may include replacing much of the building, restoration of the historic front facade is a key objective of the redevelopment effort. The original clock and decorative stone parapet that once adorned the building are in storage and must be reconstructed.

A number of interior features still remain in the building including a circular check-writing kiosk with decorative grillwork, doors to the bank safe, mezzanine railings, stone flooring and a corner-office fireplace.

The complete Request for Proposals is available on the City website at /p/6981/FY-2023-IFBRFPRFQRFS. Proposals are due by 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023. The RFP process is being managed by Chief Procurement Officer Laura Phelps.
