Greenfield is finalizing the City’s plans for its FY18 Mini-Entitlement Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) that the City will receive in summer from the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). The City invites community members to comment on its plans at a public hearing on Wednesday, February 7th at 6pm held at the Office of Planning and Development, 114 Main Street. (Snowdate is February 8th at 5:30pm) Greenfield expects to receive $825,000 from the FY18 CDBG Program and will use these funds to demolish a condemned building on Main Street, support commercial rehabilitation and upgrades of Greenfield’s downtown housing stock, invest in infrastructure improvements, and continue social services.
Greenfield intends to complete the demolition of a condemned property on Main Street with additional design and site work to create access from Main Street to the rear parking lot. The City will also make additional investments in the redevelopment of the First National Bank and Trust building which was acquired by the Greenfield Redevelopment Authority late last year. The housing rehab program and a new code enforcement assistance program will continue to make efforts to support investments to the City’s housing stock. Funding will be earmarked to support the engineering and installation of the City’s municipal broadband internet (GCET) into Greenfield neighborhoods to expand service to additional households. And the City will continue to support critical social services.
