Greenfield Alert to Keep Community Informed

New system to provide Emergency Alerts to Greenfield Residents and Businesses

Public safety officials in the City of Greenfield are excited to announce that Greenfield Alert, powered by Smart911, is now available to all residents. Greenfield Alert is a free service that allows individuals to sign up for notifications sent from state and local authorities. Greenfield Alert keeps residents and travelers informed on potentially hazardous situations involving weather, traffic and other emergencies. The system will also allow residents to op-in and receive other communications such as DPW notifications, and Winter Parking Bans. Greenfield Alert replaces the current system used by City of Greenfield and ALL users must re-register with Greenfield Alert to continue to receive important messages.

Greenfield Alert enables authorities to notify the community in real time,” said Robert Strahan Greenfield’s Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director. “This service allows for critical communication with the public and provides individuals with the information needed to stay safe or take precautions during hazardous or emergency situations.”

Greenfield Alert enables residents and travelers to Greenfield to sign up for free at the City’s webpage at greenfield-ma.gov/alert to receive timely and actionable emergency alerts via email, text or voice message on their cell phones. They can also identify when and how they are alerted and communicated with before, during, and after emergencies. Residents may also sign up to receive emergency notifications by texting Greenfield to 67283 on any cell phone.

“Citizens will receive notifications that will improve safety in our city and help inform residents of potentially lifesaving actions they may need to take in an emergency,” said Butch Hawkins Chairman of Greenfield’s Public Safety Commission. “The information sent out by Greenfield Alert though emergency notifications allows both residents and first responders to be better informed in an emergency situation.”

“When authorities have information about a situation, such as storm or emergency they can be more effective in providing information to the public and appropriate assistance,” said Strahan “We encourage all members of our community and their families’ sign up for Greenfield Alert in order to be prepared should an emergency occur.”

Citizens are encouraged to sign up for Greenfield Alert and input their information and notification preferences today on the secure Smart911 online system. Greenfield Alert is private and secure, is only used for emergency responses, and other important alerts that subscribers choose to receive from the City of Greenfield.
