Spring Street Sweeping Underway

The City of Greenfield began street sweeping Tuesday, March 28. It’s expected to continue for the next two weeks, weather permitting. The contract this year has been awarded to BDM Sweeper Services of Keene, NH.

The parking lots and downtown area will be swept at night. The remainder of the sweeping will be done during the day. The general area for street sweeping is south of Silver Street (included) and east of I-91.

In addition to spring sweeping, the downtown business district will be swept as needed. Business owners in the downtown area are reminded that it is their responsibility to sweep and keep their sidewalks clean. Litter should be picked up and not swept into the street.

Residents are requested to observe the tips below to facilitate the operation:

• Avoid parking on the street during daylight hours until after your street is swept.

• Do not sweep sand into piles; the sweeper can do a better job if the sand is not consolidated. If the homeowner wants to pick up the sand, it can be brought to the Transfer Station without charge. Please do not place sand in the trash.

• Do not rake grass, leaves or branches into the street.

• Your patience with the noise and dust is appreciated. Water is used for dust control, but a small amount of dust is unavoidable.
