Mission Statement
The Greenfield Board of Health seeks to preserve and protect the health and well-being of the residents of Greenfield. The Board of Health protects the public health, prevents and controls disease, promotes safe and sanitary living conditions, and protects the environment from hazards. To this end the Board of Health promulgates, interprets and enforces regulations.
Overview
While the Board of Health and Health Department both work towards the maintenance and promotion of a healthy community, the two bodies have very different roles.
Board of Health
The Board of Health is responsible for making health policy for the City of Greenfield, which includes:
• Creating new policy and regulation
• Holding public hearings on existing policies and regulations
• Hearing variance requests for existing policies and regulations
The Board is consists of 3 members, appointed by the Mayor as described in the City of Greenfield Charter. Each member shall serve a 3 year term. A physician or health care professional is required to be one of the three members.
