Disability (Handicap) Parking
FEE EXEMPTION: In cities and towns that have parking meters, people who have a disability plate or display a disability placard are exempt from paying parking meter fees. However, this exemption only applies to meters, not any other type of pay-to-park system. (Massachusetts General Law c. 40 § 22A)
TIME LIMIT EXEMPTION: People who have a disability plate or display a disability placard are exempt from the time limits on a parking space, such as 15-minutes or one-hour only. However, this does not exempt plate or placard users from fines or towing when “No Parking” restrictions are in effect, such as during snow emergencies. (Massachusetts General Law c. 40 § 22A)
