Important Dates Leading Up to the New Greenfield Public Library Grand Opening


A number of activities and events will prepare for and celebrate the Greenfield Public Library’s move from 402 to 412 Main St. These events will culminate with the Grand Opening Celebration of Greenfield’s first purpose-built library on July 13, 2023.

All details on these events will be promoted with the library’s own media outreach over the next several weeks.

  •  Saturday, June 17, 2023, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. – “Saying Goodbye to the Leavitt-Hovey House.” In-house events, open to the public with refreshments at 402 Main St.
  • Saturday, June 17, 2023, 2 p.m. – Library closes at current location.

While the library building is closed, the library’s digital resources and virtual programs will be available 24/7 on the library website, greenfieldpubliclibrary.org.

  • Saturday, June 24, 2023, 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. - “Human Book Chain.”

Help move the children’s picture books to the new library! Afterwards, refreshments will be served and participating kids will be given a free book, courtesy of the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library, to take home. Sign up on the library website.

  • June 19 – July 12, 2023 – Greenfield Public Library is closed.
  • June 19 – 30, 2023 – No CWMARS service.

Service will recommence with limited curbside pickup from July 3– July 12, times to be announced.

  • Thursday, July 13, 2023, 9:30 a.m. – Grand Opening Celebration at 412 Main St. The Greenfield Military Band will perform, a ribbon cutting will take place at 10 a.m., and the building will be open to the public for refreshments, a special story time and regular library business.
